In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose yourself amid the expectations of many people around you: family, co-workers, managers, and friends.
It’s important to consciously slow down and be true to yourself – others will be naturally drawn to your authenticity and you’ll feel better about yourself, increase your self-confidence, and celebrate your uniqueness.
There’s a lot of research that indicates people are looking to be happier in their lives and feel more satisfied with their lives – being true to oneself is trending all over, and expected to continue on an upward trend.
You can make authenticity and living an authentic life a daily habit by starting with simple and clear questions like:
- What actions will I take today to show my authentic self?
Instead of continuing to act in a way that isn’t truly authentic to who you are and who you are working to become, be intentional about acting in a way that fits your authentic self-definition.
- What self-esteem building actions will I take today?
When you’re not living an authentic life, even if you don’t call it that, you know – at the core of your heart and your being, you KNOW. Living a less-than-authentic life can also cause you to be harder on yourself and damage your self-esteem. Taking action to reverse that damage is a great way to start moving toward an authentic life.
- What do I need to affirm about myself today?
Our self-talk can be very hard – on US! I’ve said in workshops that if we had a friend that spoke to US the way we speak ABOUT ourselves TO ourselves, we’d drop that person like the proverbial bad habit! If your self-talk is neutral, or worse – negative, then it’s time to create a new habit and begin affirming what’s GOOD about yourself on a daily basis.
If you’ve read this far, you may be looking for a way to get a better understanding of how being true to yourself – being Authentic – can contribute to greater positive emotional health and your level of satisfaction with your life, or a way to jump-start being more authentic while affirming what’s good and positive about yourself.
